How to get to Landau

The LAUD conference will take place at Butenschoen-Haus in Landau in der Pfalz, Germany.

Address:

Butenschoen-Haus, Luitpoldstrasse 8, 76829 Landau/Pfalz, Germany

Important:

Please note that the conference will be held in Landau in der Pfalz (Rhineland-Palatinate),
NOT in Landau an der Isar (Bavaria).

Please also note that the inviting institution has recently changed its name from University of Koblenz-Landau to University of Kaiserslautern-Landau (RPTU) due to a restructuring of the university landscape.

The conference venue is not part of the university campus, though. The conference will take place at Butenschoen-Haus, a modern educational centre close to the university campus.

The nearest airports are:

Frankfurt Airport (FRA)

60547 Frankfurt am Main*, Germany

Frankfurt Airport is the largest commercial airport in Germany.

*Please do not make the mistake of choosing Frankfurt Hahn Airport (HHN), which is located much further to the north.

The fastest way to get to Landau from Frankfurt Airport is to take the ICE train from Frankfurt Flughafen Fernbahnhof (= long-distance train station) to Mannheim main station, switch to a regional train or S-Bahn (= suburban train) to either Neustadt (Weinstrasse) or Karlsruhe, and then switch to a regional train to Landau (Pfalz).

The whole journey takes about 2 hours.

A slower, but cheaper and slightly more comfortable way would be to take the coach (Flixbus)* from Frankfurt Airport to Karlsruhe main station and then switch to a regional train to Landau (Pfalz).

For the details on the train connection, see Arrival by Train below.

* Please note that the Flixbus connections are not very frequent and that pre-booking is advised.

Baden Airpark (FKB)

77836 Rheinmünster, Germany

Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport is the second largest commercial airport in the German state of Baden-Württemberg in terms of passenger numbers. It is located southwest of Rastatt and west of Baden-Baden, near the French border on the site of the Baden Airpark industrial park.

The fastest way to get to Landau from Baden Airpark is to take the bus from Flughafen Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Terminal, Rheinmünster to Rastatt main station, switch to a regional train to Karlsruhe, and finally to a regional train to Landau (Pfalz).

The whole journey takes about 2 hours.

For the details on the train connection, see Arrival by Train below.

Stuttgart Airport (STR)

70629 Stuttgart, Germany

Stuttgart Airport is the international airport of Stuttgart, the capital of the German state of Baden-Württemberg.

The fastest way to get to Landau from Stuttgart Airport is to take the bus from Stuttgart Flughafen/Messe to ZOB Esslingen (Neckar), switch to an S-Bahn (= suburban train) to Stuttgart main station, switch to an ICE train to Karlsruhe, and finally to a regional train to Landau (Pfalz).

An alternative route would be the S-Bahn (= suburban train) from Stuttgart Flughafen/Messe to Stuttgart-Vaihingen, the regional train to Stuttgart main station, the ICE train to Mannheim main station, and finally the regional train to Landau (Pfalz).

The whole journey takes about 3 hours.

For the details on the train connection, see Arrival by Train below.

If you are arriving by train, please get off at Landau main station/Hauptbahnhof.

(Landau has two other stops, Westbahnhof and Südbahnhof, but not all trains stop there and it is also easier to catch further transport such as taxis/cabs and buses at the main station.)

The distance between Landau main station and our conference venue “Butenschoen-Haus” is 2.2km.

You can continue your journey by taxi/cab, by the VRN flexline shuttle service or by one of the regular bus services (see Public Transport within Landau below).

Here are the train connections from Karlsruhe and Neustadt(Weinstraße) to Landau on Sunday evening (20 Aug). Note that the last trains depart to Landau at around 11pm.
