About FMU & Florence
Francis Marion University (FMU) is located near Florence, the largest city in the “Pee Dee” region of South Carolina, USA.
It is named in honour of the American Revolutionary War hero General Francis Marion.
FMU offers a broad range of undergraduate and graduate programs with a strong focus on liberal arts education.
The College of Liberal Arts comprises the departments of English, Modern Languages, Mass Communication, History, Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Fine Arts, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Engineering. The School of Education offers courses targeted at future teachers (elementary, middle and secondary level). Students from Landau University are free to attend any classes except classes linked to the School of Health Sciences.
The average class size at FMU is 20, affording students personalized attention from faculty and staff.
The FMU Writing Center is available to assist all students, including exchange students, to improve their writing abilities and acquire the skills needed to succeed at writing tasks in academic contexts.
